2019 FIFA Women's World Cup

Football is officially the most popular sport worldwide (one in five adults take part - around 8.2 million in the UK alone), however it is also associated with a high injury rate. Most football injuries are the result of trauma from player contact - but ankle injuries are one of the most commonly diagnosed in the game. Whether it's in training or in a match action, the pressure of shifts in weight, twists and turns make the ankle prone to knocks and sprains.

With the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup starting this week in France (June 7th to July 7th 2019), we thought we'd provide a handy guide for using Kinesio Tape for ankle sprains. Of course, it's not just for footballers - it's great for anyone managing an ankle sprain and associated swelling!

This Kinesio Taping application is aimed at helping to reduce swelling of the ankle due to accumulation of excessive fluid in the tissues.

DIRECTIONS:

1. Measure and cut 2 Fan Cuts from above the area of swelling, to below. Remove a small section of the paper backing from the anchor of the first Fan Cut and place the anchor with no tension above the area of swelling on the front of the leg.

2. Without stretching the tape, peel away the paper backing and apply each tail to cover the area of swelling. Lay down the ends without tension. Rub the tape to activate the adhesive.

3. Remove a small section of the paper backing from the anchor of the second Fan Cut and place the anchor with no tension above the area of swelling on the inside of the leg

4. Without stretching the tape, peel away the paper backing and apply each tail to cover the area of swelling, and form a criss-cross pattern with the first Fan Cut. Lay down the ends without tension, on skin. Rub the tape to activate the adhesive

You can purchase Kinesio pre-cut fan tape from our website (www.kinesiotaping.co.uk ) or from Amazon. If you're a therapist you can purchase the packs on the dedicated shop: b2b.kinesiotaping.co.uk
