Places are still available for a specialist KT3 Lymphoedema Kinesio Taping course in London during July and suitably qualified therapists and physiotherapists who are interested are urged to apply as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
Kinesio Tape is now recognised throughout the world as an effective treatment for Lymphoedema. Collectively 80% of NHS trusts and private clinics up and down the country order over a thousand rolls of Kinesio Taping - the equivalent of nearly 4 miles - to treat this distressing condition - and qualified Kinesio Taping Practitioners are highly sought after.
Lymphoedema is a chronic disorder that affects 240,000 men, women and children in the UK and 100 million people around the world. It can be described as an abnormal swelling due to the presence of excess lymphatic fluids and is usually seen in the extremities of the body such as the arms and legs but can appear elsewhere. The condition often occurs after treatment for cancer when lymph nodes are removed.
Lymphoedema can be classified in two types; primary and secondary. Primary Lymphoedema is a hereditary abnormality of the lymphatic system, which occurs to approximately one in six thousand people. Secondary Lymphoedema is the result of a blocked or damaged lymphatic system. The causes of secondary Lymphoedema can be: cancer treatments, scars, trauma, chronic venous insufficiency, or obesity. Without treatment the Lymphoedema symptoms become more progressive and serious.
Kinesio Taping - usually in a less noticeable beige shade - is increasingly now being used in the NHS to help to drain lymphatic fluid by raising the skin in an affected area. The tape increases the space in which lymphatic fluid flows, resulting in decreased pressure. It is often used in conjunction with Manual Lymph Drainage, a gentle massage technique which uses a series of rhythmic, light strokes in a specific sequence along the lymphatic vessels and surrounding tissues.
Gudrun Collins, a Certified Kinesio Instructor and Director of her own Sports Injury and Lymphoedema Clinic in Suffolk and will be leading this 2 day course.
