Kinesio literally holds us together!

Fundraising father Ivan Hollingworth will soon take part in his sixth annual physical challenge to raise money for the Freeman Children's Heart Unit (CHUF) in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Every event is more gruelling than the previous and each year so far, Ivan has relied on the support of Kinesio taping - both for him, as well as his running, cycling and swimming mates - to keep pain at bay, soothe tired muscles and prevent them giving up when the going gets tough!

Says Ivan: "Kinesio tape literally holds us together. We couldn't do without it!"

This year, the fund raising event starts on Sunday 19 July 2015 and lasts for four days. There are twelve people in total signed up for the full four day marathon, but many more athletes join for one day only and by Wednesday 22 July there are likely to be around 40 people on the final stretch from Corbridge in Northumberland to Tynemouth on the coast.

On day one, the team will cycle 81 miles to Keswick from Tynemouth, over every major pass in the Lake District including Hardnott Pass, Wrynose Pass, Kirkstone Pass, Whinlatter Pass and Honister Pass. Day two sees the participants swim for one mile across Derwent Water and then cycle 63 miles to Alston. On day three, the team will run 36 miles to Corbridge and on day four they will run a final marathon to Tynemouth.

So far Ivan has raised a staggering £343,000. This has been achieved by events such as running 100 miles in just 24 hours, organising a fundraising ball and multiple marathons, as well as this annual group challenge. Ivan's exploits even made him a YouTube star after he skied ten kilometres down a mountain wearing only a mankini to raise money.

Ivan's son Seb was born in 2009 with a congenital heart condition. This resulted in him undergoing six hours of open heart surgery at only 16 weeks old in order to save his life. Ivan and his wife Nadine have since campaigned tirelessly to raise funds to purchase much needed equipment, aftercare and research for CHUF.
