Sean sure to go far

Young Sean Pitt, a qualified Kinesio practitioner and sports masseur, is the latest member of the Kinesio team to volunteer for professional taping duties at sporting events.

At the age of 17, as a promising young footballer, Sean suffered a serious knee injury - Chondromalacia Patellae (also known as CMP) - which is an inflammation of the underside of the patella and softening of the cartilage. Sadly this put his future professional footballing career on hold but it paved the way for his interest in sports therapy and physiotherapy.

Sean, who's now 22, is in his final year of a Sports and Exercise Science BSc (Hons) degree at Sunderland University. Next year he is hoping to study for a Masters in Physiotherapy at either Northumbria or Teesside Universities.

As a keen sportsman himself, Sean rarely stands still, and while not studying or playing football (now just for amateur clubs), he's also working hard wherever and whenever he can as a sports masseur and Kinesio practitioner.

Sean first became interested in the healing powers of Kinesio after seeing what it did for international athletes and was so impressed that he enrolled himself on a KT 1 and 2 course last year: "I wanted to learn exactly how to tape professionally and I also thought it would give me a broader skillset and be a really useful extra qualification to have, considering my sports science background" he says.

Ironically many colleges and universities are now including Kinesio KT1 and 2 training within their BSc (Hons) degrees but Sean was too quick off the mark for them and in 2014 this hadn't happened.

Since he's learnt how to apply Kinesio taping correctly, Sean has been using it in many different injury scenarios and even on himself for ligament pain. He's found it's helped on every occasion.

Long term, after he's finished all his studying, Sean's dream is to eventually work as a head physiotherapist for a leading premiership football club. His dedication, passion and hard work is very impressive and he certainly deserves to go far.

Kevin Anderson, MD of Kinesio UK says: "We would like to welcome Sean to our team of volunteer Kinesio practitioners for sporting events. He's extremely ambitious and talented. It's been a pleasure to work with him so far and we're looking forward to doing so again very soon!"
