The 2019 Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships is being held in Tokyo, Japan from November 28 to December 1, 2019. The competition is hosted at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre, which will also be the venue for gymnastics competitions at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. Eight finalists in each individual competition this month will secure their entry for their country to the Games next year.
The first Trampoline World Championships took place in 1964. The USA dominated the tournament, finishing top of the table for the first 13 events, but recently China have become the team to beat. Medals will be awarded in four disciplines: individual trampoline, synchronised trampoline, tumbling and double mini-trampoling and all-around mixed team competition.

Outside of the professional arena, trampolines have become a frequent sight in the back gardens of many UK homes.
Children, teens and adults can all have great fun jumping and somersaulting. Trampoline jumping has also proved to provide beneficial physical exercise - but it does present a risk for injuries - mainly sprains and strains. During the summer months, trampoline injuries account for approx 13% of children's accidents requiring hospital care.
The most common injury on a trampoline is associated with the foot or ankle - typically a sprain. Sprained ankles happen when you twist or turn your foot beyond its normal movement, which can stretch or tear the ligaments that support your joint. A grade I sprain is a mild sprain, so you may have some swelling, bruising and pain around the ankle - but you should be able to put some weight on your foot.
Kinesio Taping can be a great way to help to reduce the swelling in the initial stages of a low level ankle sprain. A fan cut technique, like the one in the picture, may assist with reducing fluid in the ankle. When you return to normal activity, and in the rehab stages, continued #kinesiotaping can help to provide extra stability. You can get advice about applying Kinesio Tape for the ankle from a trained Kinesio Therapist, or message us if you need more information.
