Wrist injuries can have a great impact on everyday tasks

Wrist injuries can have a great impact on everyday tasks – they can stop you from carrying out basic activities such as lifting things, writing, typing, or putting weight on your hand. They can be caused by a medical condition, or an injury, and can affect any aspect of the wrist joint, including the bones, ligaments and connective tissue surrounding the area. As a result of wrist injuries, weakness, numbness, tingling, tenderness and inflammation in the hand can be unwanted side-effects.

Two of the most common causes of wrist pain are sprains and overuse, which can cause tendonitis (inflammation of the tendons) or bursitis (where fluid builds up in the sac that cushions the wrist joint).

Today’s short video shows Kinesio Taping for the wrist using Kinesio Performance Tape and Classic. The muscles in your wrist and hand are controlled by nerves that run down your arm – one of the main nerves is the median nerve which controls the movement of your fingers. If you do repetitive hand and finger movements at work, the inside of your wrist may swell and this can cause the median nerve to compress – this is known as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. As a result of this condition, you may feel a tingling sensation in your fingers and pain.

The basic Kinesio taping application in the video is easy to apply. You can use a roll of Kinesio Tape to cut the application shown. Alternatively, Kinesio has a Pre-cut Pack for wrist and this is available on our website – www.kinesiotaping.co.uk and on Amazon.
