Team Evolution Juniors chosen for Youth Olympics

Kinesio UK supports elite junior UK alpine racing squad Team Evolution and two of its members have qualified for the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in Brasov, Romania starting on 17 February.

Darcie Mead (16) from Kingston upon Thames and Max Baggio (17) from Harpenden have both been chosen to represent Team GB as part of a 5 person squad.

Both Darcie and Max topped podiums in multiple disciplines at the English Alpine Championships and British Alpine Championships during 2012.

Team Evolution is a UK alpine performance training group, which works as part of a structured, professional Alpine Academy programme and achieves the highest standard of performance within alpine racing whilst also providing educational support and personal development. There are three teams in total: minis (9-11 years old); children (11-15); and juniors (15-18).

Darcie and Max spend most of their time based at the Team Evolution training facility in Austria. This year, as well as training hard for the Youth Olympic Festival, they?re also both studying for AS levels. Last year Darcie and Max attained excellent GCSE results ? a testament to their hard work and support from their respective schools: Surbiton High School for Girls and Roundwood Park.

Max says: After being injured last year, this season I feel really well prepared and ready to represent TeamGB at the Youth Olympics. Kinesio Taping was used as part of my rehabilitation programme and it really helped. I am happy with my training and I know that I have a good chance of doing well. My training at Team Evolution has been pretty intensive and it?s good to go through it with Darcie as we're both in the same boat with regards to competing at the same level, as well as studying for our AS levels.

Kevin Anderson, MD of Kinesio Taping says: Kinesio Taping relieves pain, reduces swelling and aids recovery in many different injuries. It is perfect for young athletes like the Team Evolution skiers, because it is flexible, light and waterproof and gives gentle yet firm support while they continue to train. Kinesio UK is delighted to be helping the team. Darcie and Max have been so successful so far and will be watching their progress at the Youth Olympics with great interest.

The Opening Ceremony for the European Youth Winter Olympic Games will take place on 17 February in Brasov, Romania. Further information on the event can be found at www.eyowf2013.ro
